KUALA LUMPUR: The year 2024 has been a definitive period for Malaysian football, marked by both progress and setbacks as the national team, under the leadership of coach Kim Pan Gon, navigates a transitional phase. Despite initial achievements, the team faces significant challenges as they strive to rebuild the Harimau Malaya’s legacy on the international stage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia’s participation in the 2023 Asian Cup Finals in Doha, Qatar, was a highlight for the national team, marking their first appearance since co-hosting the tournament in 2007. However, the team struggled in Group E, failing to secure a win, though they ended on a high note by drawing 3-3 with South Korea, with Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim’s goal earning the Best Goal of the tournament. Despite a promising start in the 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers, Malaysia finished third in Group D, missing out on advancing further.
