Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has confirmed its readiness to respond effectively to flooding emergencies, even if such events were to occur concurrently across all states. The assurance was provided by the department’s director of Fire and Rescue Operations, Nordin Pauzi, who stated that personnel are prepared to switch from 12-hour to 24-hour work shifts if required.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nordin emphasized that during the recent Typhoon Senyar incident, combined with the ongoing monsoon season which caused widespread flooding, it was not necessary to extend shifts to 24 hours. This situation highlighted that the department has not yet needed to fully utilize its manpower, with personnel still able to work overtime when needed.
Nordin shared these insights with reporters after visiting the Disaster Operations Room and attending a briefing on the current flood situation at the Terengganu JBPM Headquarters. He further mentioned that assets have been strategically positioned to facilitate smooth rescue and evacuation operations for flood victims.
He stated that all fire stations nationwide have been instructed to inspect their assets, ensuring they are available, functional, and ready for deployment. Additionally, all rescue agencies are fully prepared with their respective assets and are ready to be mobilized at any moment under the coordination of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
