Kunming: Malaysian rally driver Gunaseelan Rajoo is set to make his long-awaited return to the international stage after a 15-year hiatus by competing in the Mile Auto Rally Championship 2026 in Kunming, China from April 20 to 26. The comeback marks his first competitive outing since 2011 after previously building a reputation as a consistent performer in the Asia Pacific region. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gunaseelan, who once earned the nickname 'Mr Consistent' during his earlier career, stated that the opportunity to return to international rallying holds special meaning. He expressed excitement about being back behind the wheel at an international level, especially in Kunming, which holds significant memories for him. Gunaseelan will be partnered by former World Rally Champion Chong, also known as 'Malay Chong,' who will serve as co-driver. The event is expected to feature more than 100 competitors, including over 20 international drivers, on the challenging terrain of Yunnan. Beyond competition, his participation aligns with efforts to promote Malaysia on the international stage in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026. Gunaseelan emphasized the importance of representing Malaysia not just as a driver, but also as an ambassador, using the platform to showcase Malaysia's strengths in various sectors. As he prepares to take on the demanding stages in Yunnan, Gunaseelan remains optimistic about his return to the sport.
