Selangor:The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) is calling for Budget 2027 to prioritize the procurement of new assets and the welfare of its officers and rank-and-file members. APM Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Ghazali Abd Rahman highlighted this need to ensure the agency remains equipped to address challenges, particularly during disaster response efforts.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ghazali emphasized the necessity of acquiring priority assets such as four-wheel drive vehicles and lorries, which are vital for operations in disaster scenarios like floods. He also pointed out the recent media focus on increasing allowances for the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA), suggesting that similar considerations should be extended to volunteer officers and personnel across various agencies, including APM.
Speaking at the 2026 Setia Gathering and Selangor APM Civil Defence Anniversary celebration, Ghazali presented establishment certificates for the Selangor APM Civil Defence Auxiliary (CDA). He noted that this marks an important step in enhancing the civil defence's readiness and capabilities in Selangor.
Ghazali stressed the importance of public and organizational involvement from both private and government sectors in addressing the complex threats posed by disasters. The CDA is envisioned as part of a support network to bolster community and organizational response capabilities. He expressed hope that the establishment of the CDA will lead to ongoing meetings, training, and participation in preparedness activities, beyond the initial certificate presentation.
