Malaysian Authorities Seize Cocoa Beans Worth RM11.8 Million from Uganda

Pasir Gudang:The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) intercepted a consignment of cocoa beans valued at RM11.8 million, which were being smuggled into the country from Uganda through Pasir Gudang Port on October 3.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the seizure involved 637,000 kilograms of cocoa beans and was executed following an inspection by enforcement officers at 3:50 pm. The cargo was detained due to incomplete and suspicious documentation.

AKPS emphasized that declaring conflicting data at the country's entry points is a violation under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 [Act 728]. Those convicted of such offenses could face fines up to RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both. For repeat offenses, penalties could increase to fines of RM75,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to rigorously enforcing regulations at Malaysia's entry points to prevent similar activities.
