Malaysia Welcomes US-Iran Understanding To End Hostilities, Urges Swift Peace Settlement

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed the understanding reached between the United States (US) and Iran toward ending hostilities and the announcement that a memorandum of understanding will be signed in the coming days.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar also commended the mediation efforts that led to the development, particularly those undertaken by Pakistan. He emphasized the urgency of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, highlighting its importance as a crucial route for global energy security and international trade. Anwar stated that prolonged disruption would be detrimental to all parties involved.

He urged all parties to act in good faith, proceed without delay, and work towards translating the understanding into a durable peace settlement. At this delicate moment, he called for restraint from any action that might derail diplomacy and renew hostilities.

The Prime Minister further called on the international community to sustain the momentum towards peace, emphasizing Malaysia's readiness to support efforts for a just and lasting settlement. Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran had been finalized, authorizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of a US naval blockade.
