According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia Silambam Association president Dr M. Despite injuries sustained by two members, they successfully secured the necessary points to clinch the title.
The triumphant return of the national heroes was celebrated at Penang International Airport, where they were greeted by supportive family members and officials, including State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen and Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director, Harry Chai Heng Hua. The victory is seen as a motivator for the team as they prepare for the upcoming International Open Silambam Championship, which Penang is set to host next year.
Team coach P. Raveendran expressed confidence in the potential of his young athletes, emphasizing the need for continued exposure and training to further develop their skills. R. Prakash, who excelled in the men’s open over 60 kilograms category, highlighted the championship as a valuable learning experience, while 14-year-old K. The Malaysian team’s impressive performance at the championship, which featured six countries, was bolstered by the support of MSNPP and the Penang Government, which remain committed to promoting traditional sports like Silambam and Kabaddi. Each Malaysian athlete contributed to the gold medal tally, achieving success in both individual skills and combat categories, and solidifying their status as overall champions.
