Malaysia To Receive Two New ETS Train Sets From China Next Month: Loke

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia will receive two sets of electric train service (ETS) trains from China next month, announced Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He mentioned that the remaining eight sets of trains will be assembled in Malaysia at a factory in Batu Gajah, Perak, with the new trains anticipated to become operational in stages by the end of this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke stated that the current plan involves extending the existing ETS services to Segamat, as the Segamat Station is ready, unlike the Johor Bahru Station. Consequently, the services will extend only up to Segamat. Segamat will utilize the existing trains, while preparations for the new trains are underway. The two new train sets are scheduled to arrive from China next month.

Loke, who is also the Seremban Member of Parliament, made these comments after attending a meeting with community leaders and a breaking of fast event, which was also attended by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. He added that with the introduction of the new trains, the frequency of ETS service between Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur would increase, benefiting passengers significantly.

He further explained that Seremban would benefit due to all trains from Johor passing through Seremban, thereby increasing service frequency from both Johor and Kuala Lumpur. This would provide passengers from Seremban with more travel options.

Additionally, Loke mentioned that the Seremban Sentral Station, which is being equipped with new facilities, is expected to be completed in two years, with piling work currently in progress. This station is anticipated to become a focal point, integrating commercial activities with transportation services.

During the breaking of fast event, Loke witnessed the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) handing over RM300,000 in business tithe to the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council for the 2024 financial year. He also presented cash aid to mosques, surau, and the asnaf group.
