Malaysia: Malaysia, as ASEAN chair at the summit next month, will focus on geopolitical issues but more so on the region’s shared agenda to emerge as a global economic power, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah stated that this agenda includes strengthening economic cooperation, attracting strategic investments, expanding trade, and accelerating regional integration.
“ASEAN must speak with one voice, seizing opportunities with all dialogue partners – not only the United States (US), but also China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries,” he emphasized.
“This is the leadership that Malaysia offers – one that upholds the principles of universal justice, remains steadfast in defending Palestine, and at the same time shoulders the major responsibility as ASEAN chair to build a prosperous, stable and thriving region,” Abaidah added.
He further highlighted that the MADANI Government will ensure that the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur demonstrates Malaysia’s capability to lead with wisdom and integrity. The focus will be on boldly defending the oppressed, steadfastly championing the people’s interests, and wisely balancing global diplomacy.
The 47th ASEAN Summit is scheduled to take place in the capital from October 26-28.
