Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia aims to complete its National Adaptation Plan (MyNAP) by next year, focusing on both mitigation and adaptation strategies. Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stated that the initiative aligns with the national goal of enhancing resilience and building capacity to address climate change challenges.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Nik Nazmi emphasized the critical nature of finalizing MyNAP during a fireside chat with Dr. Gary Theseira, Chair of the Council, Climate Governance Malaysia, at the National Climate Governance Summit (NCGS) 2025 held at Sasana Kijang. He noted that while the upcoming climate change bill will cover both mitigation and adaptation, much focus will be on mitigation. Despite Malaysia’s relatively small global emissions contribution, Nik Nazmi highlighted the importance of adaptation in the face of real climate change impacts, including changing weather patterns, floods, and heatwaves.
The MyNAP plan is expected to outline various strategies and measures to help Malaysia adapt to the impacts of climate change. The ongoing NCGS 2025, themed “Transition Finance: The Foundation of the Transition Economy,” is scheduled to run until April 11. It brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and global experts to spotlight transition finance as a cornerstone of ASEAN’s sustainable future.
