Kuala Lumpur: A Special Inter-Agency Coordination Committee will be established to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza. This initiative will be overseen by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Malaysia Waqf Foundation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar announced that the department fully supports the Prime Minister’s efforts to construct a school, hospital, and mosque in Gaza. The newly formed Special Inter-Agency Coordination Committee will be managed by JAKIM and the Malaysia Waqf Foundation to mobilize strategies in support of this commitment.
Mohd Na’im emphasized that the Special Committee will work closely with state Islamic authorities and strategic partners to enhance community-wide cooperation in Gaza’s reconstruction. He also urged the public to pray for the successful implementation of these plans, expressing hope for peace and strength for the Palestinian people facing significant challenges.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia’s assistance in rebuilding Gaza and Palestine would be a collaborative effort involving Malaysians and the private sector. The reconstruction efforts will also see cooperation between the Japanese and Malaysian governments, with a plan to establish a fund through the East Asia programme.
The announcement comes in the wake of a three-phase ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which began last Sunday. The first phase of the ceasefire is set to last six weeks, following over 460 days of conflict that resulted in extensive destruction in Gaza and the loss of tens of thousands of Palestinian lives.
