Malaysia To Champion Open And Fair Trade, Global Cooperation – Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia will continue to champion open trade, fair rules, and international cooperation through its proactive engagement across multiple platforms, including Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), ASEAN, and BRICS, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He also emphasised that Malaysia will remain a constructive and credible voice for dialogue, equity, and shared prosperity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in his special address at Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2025 today, Anwar noted that Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, which concludes in just a few weeks, comes at a pivotal moment for the region amid shifting global dynamics. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of credibility and stability in a world where power is not only measured by military might or market size.

Anwar stated, “The world has entered an age where power is not only measured by military might or market size, but by credibility, the capacity to be trusted, to offer stability when others choose confrontation.” He emphasized that Malaysia’s role is to remain a reliable partner in a volatile world, engaging all sides without being overly influenced by any, and upholding principles while being aware of power dynamics.

He further elaborated on the MADANI framework, underscoring that prosperity should not come at the expense of humanity. Anwar stressed that reforming governance involves not only combating corruption but also restoring trust, and that attracting investors is about inviting confidence in Malaysia’s moral and political direction.

As ASEAN Chair for 2025, Malaysia will host the 47th ASEAN Summit this month. The summit will bring together leaders from the 10-member bloc and dialogue partners to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and pressing global issues.
