Malaysia Strengthens Economic Ties with Italy through Strategic Roundtable

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia remains committed to the principles of free and open trade as the core to inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economic growth. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of international stability and peace as a foundation for economic prosperity and cross-border synergy opportunities that businesses must exploit.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this commitment was conveyed during the Malaysia-Italy Economic Partnership Roundtable session chaired by Prime Minister Anwar and Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The session, held today, brought together more than 100 companies from both nations, spanning the manufacturing, services, and trade sectors, as well as industry agencies and organizations.

Prime Minister Anwar stated that the session reflects a shared commitment to strengthen trade relations and open up wider strategic investment space between Malaysia and Italy. The meeting also bolstered the confidence of Italian industry players in Malaysia’s openness policy, efficient governance, and economic competitiveness.

The active participation of leading companies highlighted the potential for higher-impact bilateral cooperation, focusing on added value, innovation, and mutual interests. Anwar noted that the session opens up broad prospects in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, carbon capture and storage technology, defense, digital economy, aerospace, and high-tech industries, which are key areas of Malaysia’s economic reform agenda.
