Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia is poised to exceed its palm oil production target for 2026 due to promising production trends, according to Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Noraini highlighted that the positive momentum in the industry, along with vigorous marketing strategies, instills confidence that the production performance this year will match or even surpass that of the previous year.
Dr Noraini stated that current production levels align with the country's strategic focus, and they are aiming for an increase. With two months remaining in the year, she expressed optimism about production prospects, attributing this to the industry's intensive marketing efforts. She shared these insights while inaugurating the Malaysian Palm Oil Forum (MPOF) Kuala Lumpur 2026.
She also noted that the ministry, through the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), is undertaking several initiatives to promote Malaysian palm oil products internationally. The total palm oil production for 2026 is projected to be between 19.5 million and 19.8 million tonnes, with Malaysia having already produced 10.8 million tonnes in the past seven months.
Furthermore, Dr Noraini mentioned the government's support for the development of the palm oil-based biomass industry, even though there is no specific target set for its commercialisation. She encouraged industry players, researchers, and investors to explore biomass opportunities as a means to generate additional income and contribute to Malaysia's renewable energy goals and resource utilization.
