Malaysia Sees High Digital Service Adoption, 98 Pct Are Frequent Users

Kuala lumpur: A total of 98 per cent of Malaysian respondents described themselves as frequent users of digital services, cementing the nation's status as a digital-first nation, according to IDEMIA Group's IDEMIA Secure Transactions (IST) study.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, IDEMIA Group, which specialises in biometrics, cryptography, and digital security, released a statement revealing that more than half of the respondents (53 per cent) felt more vulnerable online than they did five years ago.

The study further highlighted that 87 per cent of respondents are concerned about fraud through digital tools, while 91 per cent worry about the theft of personal data when using digital services. Despite these rising concerns, nearly half of the respondents admit that they do not fully understand how cyber threats work or how they may be exposed to them.

IDEMIA emphasized that these findings reflect a broader shift in user expectations. Although there are growing concerns about fraud and cyberattacks, consumers are not retreating from digital services. Instead, they expect security to be seamlessly integrated into their digital experiences without sacrificing convenience or ease of use.

The study also pointed out the escalating complexity of the cybersecurity landscape. Respondents identified artificial intelligence (AI)-driven cyberattacks as a significant factor behind their increasing concerns. Emerging technologies such as quantum computing are also beginning to reshape discussions on long-term digital security and resilience.

While only a minority of Malaysians claim to have a clear understanding of quantum computing, a notable 83 per cent of those familiar with the technology already regard it as a potential cybersecurity threat.
