Malaysia Secures Bronze in ASIAD 2026 MLBB After Defeat by Myanmar

Aichi:The national Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) team faced disappointment after losing 2-0 to Myanmar, resulting in a bronze medal finish at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the semi-final loss at Aichi Sky Expo was particularly painful for the team, who had an opportunity to push the match to a deciding game after a strong performance in the second game. National player Muhammad Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, known as 'Sekys', cited the team's inability to manage their excitement and emotions after taking the lead as a major factor in their defeat, allowing Myanmar to capitalize on their mistakes.

"We were too overexcited after taking the lead and couldn't maintain our composure," Sekys commented, reflecting on the match. The loss was especially frustrating for Malaysia as they had hoped for a gold medal following the earlier upset of favorites, the Philippines, in another semi-final.

Malaysia had previously triumphed over Jordan 2-0 in the quarter-finals but were stopped short of the finals by a more composed Myanmar team, featuring players Myo Myint Ko Ko Kyaw, Hein Htet Oo, Kyaw Thuya, Han Htoo Swe, and Shine Lin Aung. Despite the setback, Sekys expressed respect for Myanmar, acknowledging them as one of the best teams in the region and highlighting their recent second-place world ranking in MLBB.

The MLBB bronze was one of two bronze medals for Malaysia's esports contingent, with the Identity V team also securing third place. Malaysia concluded their Asian Games esports campaign with a total of one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The gold medal was won by e-racing competitor Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira, while the silver medals were achieved by the eFootball and Honor of Kings teams.
