Porec: The Malaysian men’s indoor hockey team achieved a crucial victory at the 2025 World Cup in Porec, Croatia, avoiding the last place in the standings by defeating Trinidad and Tobago 6-4 in the 11th-12th place classification match held at the Zatika Sport Centre. This win marked Malaysia’s first in the tournament after facing defeats in all their Group B matches and previous classification games for the 9th-12th positions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Trinidad and Tobago initially took charge of the match with a goal by Mickell Pierre in the 7th minute, followed by another from Darren Cowie just three minutes later. However, Malaysia mounted a strong comeback in the second quarter, with Muhammad Ashran Hamsani scoring twice and Abdul Khaliq Hamir adding another to give Malaysia a temporary lead.

Trinidad and Tobago regained momentum in the third quarter with goals from Teague Marcano and Jordan Vieira in quick succession, bringing the score to 4-3. Malaysia’s Muhammad Najmi Farizal Jazlan then leveled the score by converting a penalty corner just two minutes after Vieira’s goal.

Malaysia secured the victory in the final quarter with goals from Abdul Khaliq and Faridzul Afiq Mohd. This win ensured Malaysia finished 11th in the tournament, while Trinidad and Tobago ended up in 12th place.
