Kuala lumpur: Malaysia ushered in 2026 with spectacular fireworks illuminating the skies and a host of spiritual activities across the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, and Menara Kuala Lumpur were among the main focal points for New Year celebrations in the federal capital, with their surroundings illuminated by colorful pyrotechnics.
Held in front of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the Visit Malaysia 2026 Countdown Festival marked the official launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026). The event, attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, showcased a blend of pyromusical fireworks, laser projections, and 3D anamorphic visuals, alongside performances by renowned artistes including Shila Amzah, Aina Abdul, and Belle Sisoski.
Meanwhile, at the Esplanade KLCC, the Rhythm of KLCC 2026 event attracted thousands of visitors who enjoyed a fireworks display, a 'tower light' show, and performances by top Malaysian artistes like Datuk Zainal Abidin and Misha Omar.
In PUTRAJAYA, the Putra Mosque hosted the Gema Syukur 2026 Programme, where thousands participated in spiritual activities including Yasin and Doa Selamat recitations and Quranic reflections, offering a calm celebration alternative.
MELAKA saw over 40,000 visitors at Encore Melaka for the New Year's Eve celebration, which coincided with the launch of Visit Melaka Year 2.0. The event featured a zapin performance by 1,000 dancers and honored figures like Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza as Melaka Art and Culture Icon.
In PERAK, over 30,000 visitors gathered in Ipoh for the state-level New Year celebration, attended by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, featuring cultural performances and a countdown to 2026.
NEGERI SEMBILAN's Dataran Nilai attracted more than 20,000 visitors with concerts and nasyid performances, while KELANTAN hosted spiritual activities at Dataran Warisan with prayers and Quranic recitations.
In SARAWAK, despite rain, thousands enjoyed the state-level celebration at Kuching Waterfront, highlighted by a fireworks display. TERENGGANU marked the occasion with the 'Malam Munajat Terengganu' programme, focusing on spiritual activities.
In KEDAH, over 10,000 visitors gathered at Tasik Darulaman for cultural performances, while PERLIS featured family-oriented activities, including a 'New Year Night Run' and the 2026 New Year Carnival in Kangar.
