Malaysia Records RM13.29 Billion Approved Investments In AI For First Half Of The Year

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has successfully drawn approved investments totalling RM13.29 billion for the artificial intelligence (AI) sector under the Digital Malaysia initiative for the period from January to June this year, with the potential to create approximately 6,920 job opportunities. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the achievement showed investor confidence in Malaysia’s potential as a regional AI hub, thus strengthening the country’s position in the global digital ecosystem.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the contribution of AI and technology to the country’s gross domestic product in 2023 was 23.5 percent, and the government has set a target for this contribution to grow to 25.5 percent by the end of 2025. “I am confident that this target can be achieved based on positive developments in investments, talent development and the implementation of various AI use cases across sectors,” said Gobind Singh Deo.

He made these remarks in response to a question from Datuk Wira Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu) regarding the progress achieved by the National AI Office and its contribution to the development of AI. This achievement aligns with the government’s efforts to develop the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, which focuses on data, talent, and infrastructure, aiming to maximise the benefits of technology for the economy and the rakyat.
