Johannesburg: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Malaysia’s readiness to enhance cooperation in the halal sector with African countries. This was revealed during a meeting with South African Islamic leaders in Johannesburg.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of developing halal certification and capacity building to benefit the local Muslim community. Anwar shared insights from his engagement session with South African Islamic leaders, highlighting the opportunity to discuss, exchange views, and identify strategies to strengthen the development of the ummah.
In a symbolic gesture of brotherhood, Anwar presented a special edition copy of the Quran with a rehal, along with four boxes of Qurans translated into English and Tajweed, to the South African Islamic leaders.
Anwar is on a four-day working visit to Johannesburg, where he will attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit as a guest of South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. Malaysia was invited to the summit, which is set to commence tomorrow and continue until November 23, in its capacity as the ASEAN 2025 chairman.
Accompanying the Prime Minister on this visit are Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, along with Malaysian government officials and business delegations.
