Kuala Lumpur: The government is taking a careful and prudent approach in addressing the issue of tariffs imposed by the United States, by prioritizing diplomatic negotiations and regional cooperation. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that this strategy is being executed in a calm and balanced manner, with the main goal of safeguarding national interests and ensuring continued economic growth.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar stated that as the ASEAN 2025 Chairman, Malaysia is actively working to strengthen ties with the US and key trading partners such as China and the European Union. This diplomatic engagement is part of Malaysia’s broader strategy to mitigate the impacts of US tariffs.
In addition, the government is exploring new trade opportunities in emerging economies like Russia and Brazil. This effort is aimed at diversifying Malaysia’s export markets, which is crucial for reducing dependency on a limited number of trading partners.
Prime Minister Anwar noted that this approach aligns with Malaysia’s medium-term economic strategy. The strategy emphasizes macroeconomic stability, global trade resilience, and increased foreign direct investment. These elements are intended to ensure inclusive and sustainable prosperity for all citizens.
