Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia has expressed interest in hosting the 2028 edition of the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships (ATBC). Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary-general Maradona Chok confirmed that the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) was notified of Malaysia’s intention last September.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Maradona Chok mentioned that they have not yet received a response from the ABF and that a decision is not expected within the next one or two years. Malaysia has previously hosted the ATBC twice, in 1972 and 1986. If chosen to host the event in 2028, it would be the largest bowling tournament in the country since the World Championships in 2003.

Maradona emphasized the goal of bringing a major event to Malaysia annually to enhance the sport’s profile and promote the country. Although Malaysia has the financial capacity to host the ATBC, securing sponsors remains a priority.

In the last edition of the ATBC in Bangkok, Malaysia achieved its most successful medal haul in the championship’s history, winning eight gold, five silver, and four bronze medals over its 54-year history. Malaysia is also set to host the Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships this August and the World Youth Bowling Championships in Sarawak next year.
