Port dickson: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today emphasized that Malaysia's decision to prevent Israeli citizens from entering the country is rooted not in anti-Jewish sentiment, but in opposition to perceived acts of oppression and occupation by Israel.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar clarified that the accusations of Malaysia being anti-Jewish are unfounded, asserting that the country's stance is a response to Israel's actions towards Palestinians. He reiterated Malaysia's resolve to uphold the entry ban on Israeli citizens despite facing pressure from United States lawmakers. Anwar stated, "Because it is not about us insulting Jews; we are opposing the cruelty, oppression and occupation by Israel. That is what we need to clarify. They keep raising it as if we are anti-race. We are not anti-race; we are against an oppressive country."

Anwar's comments came during an interaction with reporters at the "Semarak Kenegaraan" program held at the Basic Training Centre of the Malaysian Army (PUSASDA). The event was attended by notable figures including Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman, and Chief of Army General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman.

The issue gained further attention when a US citizen, identified as holding Israeli citizenship, was asked to leave Malaysia. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan indicated that this action aligns with Malaysia's policy of not recognizing Israel or its passports.

Previously, Anwar reiterated Malaysia's firm stance on limiting the entry of Israeli citizens, despite expressions of dissatisfaction from eight US Congress members. He highlighted that Malaysia's position is guided by the principle of defending human rights and opposing the oppression and ongoing violence against Palestinians in Gaza.
