Malaysia Falls Short Against China in World Junior Mixed Team Championships Quarter-Finals

Malaysia: Malaysia lost 2-0 to China in the quarter-finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2025 in Guwahati, India, today. The Malaysian team was defeated with scores of 36-45 and 43-45 at the National Centre of Excellence, under the tournament’s new relay format.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) expressed their sentiments on Facebook, stating, “It’s the end of the road in the quarter-finals for our Malaysian juniors, who fell to a strong China side despite putting up a brave fight.” They commended the team for their spirit and determination and mentioned that the team will now focus on competing in the 5th-8th placing matches scheduled for tomorrow.

The 2025 edition of the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships introduced a novel relay format. Matches are played in the best-of-three sets, with each set being won by the first team to reach 45 points. The competition consists of five matches, including men’s singles
, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The format allows play to move to the next match once a team reaches nine points, and teams have the flexibility to change their players for each set.
