Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia is actively engaging in reciprocal tariff negotiations with the United States while continuing to offer strong support to local industries and exploring new export markets.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz highlighted that US tariffs present a significant challenge; however, Malaysia remains steadfast with the MADANI government committed to protecting the nation’s economy.
The minister emphasized, “The MADANI government is fighting for the people and industries. I assure you, the MADANI government is committed to safeguarding our economy,” as he conveyed his message through the social media platform X today.
A Special Meeting of the Dewan Rakyat was convened today regarding the issue of reciprocal US tariffs. During a press conference following the special parliamentary meeting, Tengku Zafrul announced that tariff negotiations are set to begin tomorrow, with zero tariffs on Malaysia being the primary objective.
Earlier on April 24, Tengku Zafrul led a high-level delegation to Washington to engage in discussions with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. This meeting emphasized the importance of ongoing discussions and Malaysia’s readiness to seek constructive solutions to the concerns raised by the US.
