Malaysia Emerges as Premier Hub for French Investment in Asia

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has solidified its position as the leading destination for France’s foreign direct investment (FDI) flows in Asia, ranking 10th globally, announced French Ambassador to Malaysia Axel Cruau. He highlighted the robust relationship between France and Malaysia, emphasizing their mutual respect, cooperation, and shared focus on innovation and sustainability.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ambassador pointed out that both nations possess the necessary attributes to become key partners in the global economy. This potential is driven by their innovative capabilities, openness to trade, and commitment to addressing significant climate and technological challenges.

The ambassador underscored this partnership by mentioning the presence of 300 subsidiaries of French companies and 300 Malaysian enterprises established and managed by French entrepreneurs. These businesses have chosen Malaysia as their base to expand their activities. He also noted that Malaysia holds the position of France’s fourth-largest trading partner within ASEAN, with French companies ranking as the fifth-largest FDI contributors in Malaysia in 2024, and the leading European investors in the country.

In 2024, bilateral trade between Malaysia and France reached RM15.95 billion (US$3.63 billion), with RM6.26 billion (US$1.49 billion) recorded from January to May this year. The France-Malaysia Business Forum, held today, further demonstrated France’s openness to business and its strategic position as an industrial and logistical gateway to European and African markets.

Ambassador Cruau remarked on the importance of building enduring relationships and creating shared value in an era where economic benchmarks are undergoing significant transformation.
