Kuching: The courage, struggles and sacrifices of the early nationalists who fought for the formation of Malaysia will be brought to life in the musical theatre production 'Malaysia Madani Kesejahteraan Dinikmati', to be staged in conjunction with Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, production director Zakaria Hassan said the 18-minute performance would highlight the spirit of patriotism, unity, and solidarity as vital foundations for the nation's formation and development. He expressed the need to emphasize the sacrifices of those who contributed their time, energy, and lives for the nation, providing a fresh perspective on annual Malaysia Day celebrations.
Zakaria explained that the musical would touch on national development, showcasing unity as a crucial foundation for the country's continued progress and success. The performance will employ acting, singing, music, and dance to offer audiences a unique experience diverging from traditional Malaysia Day performances that often feature pantomime or dance.
He elaborated on the production's aim to exhibit Malaysia's diversity and spirit of unity through various artistic expressions and ethnic languages. The performance involves a dedicated team of about 70 people, including actors, production crew, and musicians, who have been preparing for over three weeks.
The cast features notable personalities such as singer, actor, and TV host Ahmad Azam Pit, better known as Azam Pitt, alongside radio presenter, actor, and host Sharifah Elya Nabila. Zakaria emphasized that the entirely Sarawakian production team provides an opportunity to showcase and develop local talent in the performing arts.
Approximately 5,000 people are expected to attend the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sept 16. The event's guest of honor will be Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are also scheduled to attend the celebration.
