Malaysia and Thailand to Enhance Cooperation on Border Development and Energy Security

Bangkok: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a meeting with his Thai counterpart, Anutin Charnvirakul, expressing a commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas including border development, energy security, rail connectivity, and logistics.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar noted that the bilateral meeting with Anutin took place in the spirit of friendship and growing mutual understanding between Malaysia and Thailand. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation involving border development, rail and logistics connectivity, energy security, flood mitigation, and people-to-people relations.

The two prime ministers met on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, which concluded today. Anwar highlighted that the close relationship not only continues the long-established legacy of friendship but also serves as an important foundation for fostering a more peaceful and prosperous future for the region.

During the meeting, the leaders expressed a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, including accelerating the target of achieving USD30 billion in trade by 2027 and expanding cross-border connectivity for the benefit of the people of both countries. Anwar reaffirmed that all disputes must be resolved peacefully based on international law, while upholding ASEAN unity as a vehicle for regional peace and stability. Malaysia remains committed to supporting diplomacy, dialogue, and principles rooted in mutual respect and shared interests.
