KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and the Republic of Guinea should intensify their engagement, particularly in market access and technical assistance, said Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong. Liew emphasized the importance of leveraging Malaysia’s expertise in areas such as Islamic finance, hajj management, and credit rating to benefit both nations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Republic of Guinea’s Planning and International Cooperation Minister, Ismael Nabe, underscored the significance of increasing Malaysia’s presence in Guinea. Both ministers agreed on the need for greater engagement between the countries, with Liew expressing gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate and showing enthusiasm for deeper ties.

The statement also mentioned that the Republic of Guinea has recently launched its Country Strategic Plan for 2024-2029. This plan focuses on promoting a green economy, accelerating digital transition, developing human capital, and fostering innovation to transform its ec
onomy.

Additionally, Liew expressed support for Nabe’s proposal to hold an economic dialogue between ASEAN and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Such a dialogue would facilitate economic exchanges, expand trade, and strengthen supply chains between Malaysia and African nations, especially the Republic of Guinea, in response to current geopolitical challenges.
