Malaysia and Japan Explore Green Energy and Technology Cooperation

Putrajaya: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof announced that Malaysia and Japan are set to explore potential collaborations in the development of green energy and technology, aiming towards a sustainable future. This was revealed during his meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who attended as a special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister, in Putrajaya.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, emphasized that this cooperation aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). The roadmap outlines investment opportunities ranging from RM435 billion to RM1.85 trillion by 2050, with the aim of creating joint ventures that benefit both the economy and the environment.

During the meeting, Fadillah and Kishida, recognized as the architect of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative, discussed several other key aspects. Fadillah highlighted AZEC’s role in enhancing bilateral, regional, and global cooperation, as mentioned in a Facebook post today. AZEC serves as a platform for cooperation aimed at advancing carbon neutrality and facilitating energy transitions to meet zero-emission targets.

In addition to Malaysia and Japan, AZEC includes member countries such as Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
