Malaysia Airlines Adjusts Flight Schedules Due to National Day Airspace Closures

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia Airlines Bhd will retime selected flights arriving at and departing from KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 following temporary airspace closures in conjunction with the 69th National Day celebrations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the national airline stated that the temporary closures within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area are to facilitate rehearsals and the National Day Flypast 2026. This will result in scheduled aircraft take-offs and landings at KLIA being temporarily suspended during selected periods.

Affected passengers will be notified via their registered contact details and are encouraged to check their latest flight status on the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app before travelling to the airport. With the upcoming school holidays and peak travel period from August 26 to September 6, 2026, passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for airport procedures.

The temporary airspace closures are scheduled from 11 am to noon on August 26-28, and from 8.45 am to 9.45 am on August 29 and 31, with the closures coinciding with rehearsals, the full rehearsal, and National Day Flypast respectively.

Malaysia Airlines also reminded passengers that check-in counters close 60 minutes before scheduled departure for both domestic and international flights, while boarding gates close 30 minutes before departure. Passengers should also be prepared for extended waiting times at key touchpoints, including check-in counters, immigration, and security clearance, which could exceed 45 minutes due to the anticipated high volume of travellers.

The airline advised passengers to ensure they have all required travel documents and verify entry and exit requirements through official channels before travelling.
