Malaysia Aims for RM700 Million in Venture Capital Investments by 2030

Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia is setting its sights on achieving RM700 million in venture capital investments and increasing the number of active startup companies by an estimated 2,000 to 3,500 by 2030 through the KL20 initiative, as announced by Minister of Economy Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, KL20 is designed to bolster Malaysia's startup ecosystem and position the country among the world's top 20 in this field. The initiative will focus on enhancing the capability of startups, requiring support from the capital sector and market players to help founders scale up and increase the value of their innovations.

The upcoming KL20@Kuala Lumpur event on October 19 at The Campus Ampang will provide startups nationwide with access to capital, strategic partners, and global markets. This event follows previous KL20 engagements in Penang and Johor, which emphasized automation, semiconductor supply chains, and the Orange Economy, including digital content and video games.

The Kuala Lumpur series will spotlight eight key sectors green energy and technology, the creative economy, agricultural technology, the digital economy, manufacturing and automation, video games, Islamic finance, and the third sector. KL20 aims to assist startups in securing further funding, developing AI-based ventures, and commercializing research.

Akmal Nasrullah highlighted that KL20 is the driving force behind Malaysia's national startup agenda, coordinating efforts through the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap 2021-2030 (SUPER) and the Malaysia Venture Capital Roadmap (MVCR). The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2026 noted that Kuala Lumpur's startup ecosystem value nearly doubled in a year, and Malaysia's talent score improved, with startups achieving exits faster than regional and global averages.

These events present opportunities for founders and startups to connect with investors, corporate partners, and agencies, offering investors a chance to discover the country's leading startups.
