Kuala lumpur: A total of 137 million trees from 2,091 species were planted nationwide between 2021 and December 31 last year under the 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign of the Malaysia Greening Programme.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department (JPSM) highlighted that Pahang recorded an impressive achievement with 13.4 million trees planted. This reflects the state government's commitment and strong community support for forest and environmental conservation efforts.
The JPSM statement mentioned that Pahang made history in 2025 by receiving recognition from The Malaysia Book of Records for the largest peat swamp forest species planting in the country. A total of 500 saplings of Ketapang (Indian almond) and Rhu Pantai (casuarina) species were planted in partnership with the local community to enhance coastal protection and preserve the coastal ecosystem.
Additionally, JPSM reported that Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, officiated at the handover of the Coastal Erosion Control Project at Kampung Tanjung Batu, Nenasi, Pekan, to the Pahang state government. The project, implemented under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was completed ahead of schedule. It aims to protect a 4.3-kilometre stretch of coastline, ensuring the safety of residents, infrastructure, and the balance of the local ecosystem.
