Malaysia 2025 GDP Growth Seen Higher, Says PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) for 2025 could rise further, underpinned by robust economic performance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He added that the country’s economy remained strong and resilient, recording 4.4 per cent growth in the first half of 2025.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that the third-quarter GDP in 2025 is expected to reach 5.2 per cent, and full-year growth could surpass earlier projections. He conveyed this during the Dewan Rakyat’s Question Time, while responding to Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) on the effectiveness of the MADANI Economic Policy after 18 to 24 months and the ongoing and planned measures to ensure the policy achieves its objectives.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that trade trends remained positive, with total trade from January to September rising 4.4 per cent to around RM2.24 trillion. He remarked that this was achieved amid an uncertain global economy, particularly due to tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump, yet trade still increased to approximately RM2.24 trillion.

He further stated that Malaysia’s competitiveness continued to improve, with the country climbing 11 places in the 2025 Global Competitiveness Index, marking its best performance since 2020. Malaysia is now ranked 23rd in the 2025 Global Competitiveness Index.
