Majority of PTPTN Borrowers Begin Loan Repayment, Reports Dewan Negara

Kuala Lumpur: A total of 2,448,105 borrowers, representing 86.45 per cent of National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan recipients, have initiated the repayment of their loans. Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud provided these figures during a session in Dewan Negara.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mustapha Sakmud highlighted that out of the total borrowers, 1,044,595 have successfully settled their loans in full. He further noted that 585,638 borrowers are consistently making repayments without any outstanding arrears. However, there are 817,872 borrowers who are making irregular payments and have accrued arrears.

Mustapha also revealed that 383,637 borrowers, or 13.55 per cent, have not made any loan repayments. As of December 31 of the previous year, PTPTN had approved loans for a total of 4,108,625 borrowers. These statistics were shared in response to a query from Senator Roderick Wong Siew Lead, who inquired about the number of PTPTN borrowers with no arrears and those with outstanding repayments.
