MAIWP Launches 2026-2030 Strategic Plan With AI Integration

Kuala lumpur: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) today introduced the MAIWP Strategic Plan 2026-2030, which aims to incorporate advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan stated that integrating AI technology is intended to enhance the profiling process of 'asnaf' (zakat recipient) groups and evaluate the effectiveness of assistance programs with greater precision and efficiency.

Dr. Zulkifli emphasized that this initiative is more than just an action plan launch; it is a mechanism designed to measure the impact of assistance provided and ensure it meets the actual needs of the asnaf. He noted that AI technology would enable data-driven actions to prevent any asnaf from being overlooked, while also managing the rise in new asnaf systematically.

He shared these insights during a press conference following the MAIWP Excellent Service Award (APC) 2025 ceremony and the official launch of the MAIWP Strategic Plan 2026-2030.

In his speech, Dr. Zulkifli also acknowledged MAIWP's achievement in securing the Clean Audit Certificate from the National Audit Department for the 19th consecutive year, highlighting the agency's governance and transparency in managing the ummah's funds.

Dr. Zulkifli revealed that throughout 2025, MAIWP's zakat collection totaled RM1.205 billion, with RM1.22 billion distributed through 38 assistance schemes. As of May 12, 2026, RM447 million in zakat funds had already been distributed to needy asnaf groups.

The Strategic Plan 2026-2030 encompasses three strategic thrusts and four main drivers, featuring 34 strategies, 75 initiatives, and 128 key performance indicators (KPIs). The plan also focuses on sustainability to ensure MAIWP remains equipped to address global economic challenges.

During the event, 370 MAIWP staff members were recognized, including 117 APC recipients, 243 officers receiving Service Appreciation Certificates, and 10 individuals awarded the Loyal Service Award for 25 years of service. Dr. Zulkifli expressed his appreciation for the staff's dedication and encouraged the continued reinforcement of a work culture rooted in trust and compassion.

MAIWP chairman Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer and MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nizam Yahya were also in attendance.
