Putrajaya: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has announced the allocation of RM1.02 million to be distributed to 5,100 asnaf and fakir in the Federal Territories. This initiative is part of the Nur Ramadan 2026 Programme, aimed at supporting these groups during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh stated that the recipients, which include 3,300 individuals in Kuala Lumpur, 1,500 in Labuan, and 300 in Putrajaya, will each receive RM200 in cash. Yeoh emphasized the importance of executing this assistance efficiently and with integrity to provide relief to families in need.
Yeoh described the Nur Ramadan Programme as a reflection of the government's dedication to community support during Ramadan. The programme is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Federal Territories (JWP), Putrajaya Corporation, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Labuan Corporation, and MAIWP, ensuring organized and effective aid delivery.
During the event, Yeoh personally distributed the cash assistance to the 300 selected recipients in Putrajaya. Additionally, she presented a special contribution of RM5,000 to mosques and surau in Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, acknowledging their roles as crucial community institutions and support centers during Ramadan.
Yeoh also highlighted the 2026 Putrajaya Ramadan Festival, taking place from February 18 to March 19, as a platform providing economic opportunities to petty traders and promoting community activities. The festival aligns with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign and supports Putrajaya's goal to become a Low-Carbon Green City by encouraging cashless transactions, reducing single-use plastics, and promoting the use of reusable bags and food waste prevention campaigns.
