Kuala lumpur: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) will implement immediate measures at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, including deploying additional personnel at arrival areas and other critical locations, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who is also the MADANI government spokesperson, stated that MAHB has been instructed to submit weekly progress reports to the Ministry of Transport (MOT) for updates to the Cabinet. These measures come in response to a disruption of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) at KLIA Terminal 1, which was caused by a power outage.
During a Cabinet meeting, Transport Minister Antony Loke highlighted the issue of the baggage system disruption at KLIA, which was due to a power supply interruption. Fahmi explained that the disruption lasted about five hours and was fully resolved by 10.30 pm. He emphasized the government's serious view of the incident and the necessity for immediate improvements to ensure smooth operations at the country's main gateway.
On April 20, the MOT confirmed that the power outage had affected the BHS at KLIA Terminal 1. The ministry reported that investigations have identified the root cause and that both immediate and long-term mitigation measures are being implemented to prevent a recurrence and strengthen system resilience.
Meanwhile, Fahmi mentioned that the Cabinet also deliberated on decisions from the National Economic Action Council (MTEN), particularly focusing on energy conservation measures in the public sector. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the importance of energy-saving efforts across all ministries, departments, and agencies. This includes increasing online meetings, reducing physical meetings, limiting overseas travel, and prioritizing the use of government premises for workshops and training programs. Fahmi noted that this approach aligns with the government's prudent management of the global supply crisis's impact, while ensuring efficient and effective public service delivery.
