Kuala lumpur: The National Art Gallery, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), is set to organize the Malaysia Art Ecosystem Fair (MAEF) 2026 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) from November 27 to 29. This event aims to unite participants from the visual arts industry onto a single platform.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the National Art Gallery announced that the fair, themed "ART KL," is dedicated to advancing the visual arts sector by fostering industry collaboration, forming strategic partnerships, and bolstering the creative economy. The initiative aligns with the goals of Malaysia MADANI and the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to develop the nation's creative economy through strengthening the visual arts ecosystem, enhancing human capital, and sustainably growing the art market.
The event builds on the foundations laid by MAEF 2021, which aimed to revitalize the visual arts industry after the COVID-19 pandemic. MAEF 2026 will emphasize improving industry competitiveness, creating a resilient market, and fostering collaborations at both domestic and international levels.
In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026, the fair will highlight visual arts as a major cultural tourism attraction, promoting local art to both public and international audiences. Stakeholders from across the visual arts ecosystem, including commercial art galleries, artists, studios, and associations, will participate, creating an integrated ecosystem that strengthens the industry's value chain.
The National Art Gallery highlights that contemporary art galleries at the event will showcase curated works for local and regional markets, providing exhibition opportunities for artists and driving the creative economy during MAEF 2026. Alongside the exhibitions, Ruang Wacana will host discussions on History, Theory, Criticism, and Studio (H.T.C.S.) in visual arts, featuring academics, researchers, and artists from Malaysia and abroad.
MAEF 2026 is expected to catalyze the development of Malaysia's visual arts industry by promoting a sustainable ecosystem, enhancing creative economic activities, and expanding market opportunities for industry players. The event aims to solidify the role of visual arts as a strategic sector that contributes to economic growth, cultural tourism, and community well-being.
