Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will aggressively pursue agents, intermediaries, and lobbyists who are the chief culprits of corruption within government agencies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya stated that this initiative will target those involved in government procurement cartels and illegal foreign worker recruitment. He emphasized a shift in strategy, aiming specifically at these agents and intermediaries to curb corruption within enforcement agencies.
Ahmad Khusairi highlighted that intermediaries are the main perpetrators of government corruption, often earning significantly more than the complicit officials. By citing illegal foreign worker syndicates, he illustrated that agents can earn up to RM5,000, whereas immigration officers receive just RM1,000. This disparity raises questions about whether risking a career is worth the reward.
Despite recent strict enforcement and preventive measures by the government and MACC, intermediaries continue to instigate corruption. Ahmad Khusairi stressed their commitment to ensuring these individuals face severe consequences, including being declared bankrupt and banned from conducting any business in the country.
