MACC Stresses Importance of Firearms Skills in Combating High-Risk Syndicates

Kajang: Greater emphasis must be placed on firearms handling skills among Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) personnel in view of the growing challenges posed by high-risk syndicate cases. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that proficiency in firearms handling is crucial for ensuring that officers are fully prepared to tackle increasingly high-risk assignments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azam emphasized the need for intensive training, such as the annual shooting tournament, which serves as a crucial platform for enhancing personnel agility and focus. He highlighted that every action in the fight against corruption should be guided by accurate facts, sound strategy, and unwavering courage to protect the nation's integrity. Azam compared the precision required in firearms handling to that needed to achieve targets at a shooting range.

Earlier today, Azam officiated the 2026 MACC Shooting Championship at the Malaysian Prison College Shooting Range in Kajang. During the event, MACC Security Division director Zuhairie Abu Bakar noted that discipline in firearm use is fundamental to the professionalism expected of enforcement officers, ensuring compliance with established regulations.

In the competition, Sriraman Renganathan from MACC Selangor secured the Individual Male Centre Fire title, while Zatun Najmiah Mohd Sabri from the Investigation Division won in the women's category. The Investigation Division was also named overall champion in the Centre Fire group category, and the Forensic Division led in the Plate Drop category. In the VIP Individual category, the representative of the Kedah MACC director, Mansur Mohamad, claimed first place, with Zuhairie and Azam coming in second and third, respectively.
