MACC Investigates 26 Companies Over Army Project Procurement

Kuala lumpur:<Text>

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has initiated an investigation into 26 companies suspected of involvement in army project procurement.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the owners of these companies are also under investigation, with the possibility of being remanded to assist in the probe. MACC began its investigation at approximately 11 am, targeting multiple locations in the Klang Valley, Perak, and Penang.

On December 23, MACC officers visited the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) to scrutinize projects executed through the open tender procurement method and those carried out under the Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ) Tentera Darat. The following day, December 24, three individuals were summoned by MACC to provide statements related to the case.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating that it is being conducted under Sections 17 and 23 of the MACC Act 2009. The case gained attention after Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, alleged that forensic analysis of anonymously received documents revealed significant monthly deposits into accounts associated with a senior military officer and family members.
