Lawas: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied the allegation that it was used to investigate candidates contesting in the PKR elections last May, as claimed by former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in a recent podcast.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MACC stated that the allegation was baseless, emphasizing that investigations were carried out solely based on complaints or information received. The commission explained that every complaint with merit undergoes verification and investigation in accordance with the law and established procedures.
The MACC clarified that the claim of officers “surrounding the house” of a particular individual was inaccurate. In the incident mentioned, investigating officers were present at the residence to meet the individual and conduct a search to obtain evidence, a standard procedure to prevent the disposal of evidence. After confirming the individual was not at home, the officers left without incident.
The following day, the individual in question voluntarily appeared at the MACC office, where his statement was recorded. He was released without detention, reinforcing the commission’s stance that all actions taken were in line with investigative requirements and procedures.
MACC urged any dissatisfied parties to lodge a complaint through official channels like the police or the MACC Complaints Committee. The commission also called on all parties to avoid making baseless accusations on social media without evidence, as such actions could undermine public confidence in the nation’s enforcement institutions.
