Putrajaya: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two individuals, including a former director-general of a statutory body with the title 'Datuk', over alleged misappropriation, abuse of power, and corruption.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspects, aged in their 50s and 60s, were detained around 4 pm today after arriving to provide their statements at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya. A source revealed that the suspects are believed to have abused their power in appointing a company for a project and in the sale of land owned by the statutory body.

The investigation suggests that both individuals are suspected of involvement in the sale of land owned by the statutory body to a company linked to the developer without the knowledge of the Board of Directors and its subsidiary. The MACC's actions indicate a serious approach to tackling corruption within statutory bodies.

Both suspects are set to be taken to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court tomorrow for a remand application. MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests and mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009. The current investigation underscores the MACC's commitment to addressing corruption and ensuring accountability within public institutions.
