LTAT to Enhance Investments in Defence and Pharmaceutical Sectors

Accra:The Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) is set to bolster its strategic investments in the defence and pharmaceutical sectors over the next five years, following the GEMPUR30 strategic plan. This plan aligns with the national priorities outlined in Budget 2027.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi, LTAT's Chief Executive, emphasized the importance of these sectors to national security, healthcare resilience, and Malaysia's economic capabilities. He affirmed LTAT's commitment to responsibly managing contributors' funds to ensure sustainable returns while strengthening the country's long-term prospects.

As part of Budget 2027's aspirations, LTAT will maintain its strategic investment in Pharmaniaga to foster the growth of the pharmaceutical industry and enhance the defence ecosystem through the Boustead Group. These investments aim to develop local industrial capabilities and bolster capacity in critical sectors, supporting Malaysia's economic and security objectives.

Additionally, LTAT has invested in the New Economy Venture Fund through Sime Darby Property's Elmina development, collaborating with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) to advance economic development and enhance the country's investment landscape. This initiative aligns with the GEAR-uP strategy, which includes a RM25 billion domestic investment agenda, aimed at strengthening the role of government-linked investment companies (GLICs) in driving economic transformation.

Mohammad Ashraf highlighted that GEAR-uP provides a platform for GLICs to collaborate with the government and private sector to mobilize capital for Malaysia's next economic growth phase. He expressed LTAT's readiness to balance its duty to protect contributors' interests with opportunities to engage in investments that contribute to national economic development.
