LSS6 Solar Tender Set To Open This Year, Says Fadillah

Kuala lumpur: Tender submissions for the Large-Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) programme are expected to open this year, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said. Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), announced that all future solar power projects will be mandated to incorporate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to enhance grid stability while expanding the renewable energy capacity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, LSS6 is among the initiatives being expedited by the government in response to global energy challenges. Fadillah emphasized that solar projects under LSS6 must be paired with battery storage, requiring all new solar power generation projects to incorporate battery systems. He made this statement during a press conference after officiating the signing ceremony of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Mikro MSC Bhd and Hong Kong Cospower Technology Co Ltd for utility-scale BESS projects in Malaysia.

In another development, Fadillah assured that Malaysia's fuel supply is sufficient to address any potential challenges arising from seasonal changes in the northern hemisphere. He stated that Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Bhd) is exploring all possibilities and has secured the necessary crude oil supplies for the country.

Meanwhile, Mikro MSC Bhd executive director and chief executive officer Syed Mohd Hafiz Syed Mohd highlighted that the two-year MoA strengthens the company's position as Hong Kong Cospower Technology's exclusive strategic partner in Malaysia for BESS projects. He noted that both parties would jointly identify, develop, and execute BESS projects across Malaysia, including public utility-scale and grid-scale developments, renewable energy-integrated projects such as solar-plus-storage and wind-plus-storage solutions, and selected commercial and industrial applications.
