Lorry Driver in 12-Vehicle Crash Tests Positive for Drugs

Shah Alam:The driver of a lorry involved in a collision with 11 other vehicles at the traffic lights along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari in Alam Budiman has tested positive for drugs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a urine screening test conducted on the 51-year-old lorry driver revealed the presence of amphetamine/methamphetamine. Shah Alam police chief ACP Sarudin Samah stated that the driver is currently detained to assist in investigations under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The driver reportedly experienced brake failure while descending from Puncak Perdana towards Puncak Alam. This led to the lorry veering into the opposite lane and crashing into 11 stationary vehicles at the Alam Budiman junction around 420 p.m. yesterday.

In the accident, a 58-year-old man driving a Subaru XV SUV suffered serious head injuries and is receiving treatment in the red zone of UiTM Hospital Puncak Alam. His wife, 53, and their 17-year-old grandson, also in the vehicle, were treated at the same hospital and are in stable condition. Another victim, a 29-year-old man driving a Perodua Myvi, sustained bodily injuries but is stable.

Authorities are seeking public assistance in the investigation. Those with information are urged to contact Shah Alam district police headquarters' Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division investigating officer, Inspector Abdul Nasser Peping, at 012-286 3875.

Footage of the lorry reportedly driving against traffic before the collision went viral on social media.
