Nilai: The government has agreed to settle the outstanding land premium compensation owed to the Negeri Sembilan government involving land at the Syed Sirajuddin Camp in Gemas, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He announced that the decision was finalized at a recent Cabinet meeting, addressing a protracted issue between the federal and state governments that demanded an immediate resolution.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar revealed the resolution during the launch of the Negeri Sembilan MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) at Dataran Nilai. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Anwar emphasized the importance of resolving the long-standing issue, asserting that the MADANI government had decided that all outstanding dues must be paid to Negeri Sembilan. This resolution marks a significant development in the ongoing negotiations over the land compensation at the Gemas camp, which has been an issue since 2014.
In addition, Anwar praised the state government under Aminuddin’s leadership for its initiatives aimed at boosting the local economy. These include the Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) and tourism programs in Port Dickson, which are designed to enhance the economic well-being of the state’s residents.
Previously, the Negeri Sembilan government had offered the federal government the option of settling the premium payment for the permanent ownership of state land at the camp through instalments. Discussions had been ongoing with the Defence Ministry over the 6,653 hectares of land, valued at RM2.16 billion, which is used for the Joint Force Training Centre at the camp.
