Kuala lumpur: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has described a planned motorcycle convoy involving several Kelantan state assemblymen to the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) in Kota Bharu as highly irresponsible. He said airport areas are strategic locations where security must be strictly maintained at all times to ensure smooth and uninterrupted passenger movement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke questioned whether the organisers would take responsibility for any congestion leading to passengers missing their flights and whether proper approvals had been obtained for the convoy. In a Facebook post, he raised concerns about the potential disruption and asked if the organisers were prepared to compensate passengers for any inconvenience caused.
To safeguard safety and ensure smooth operations at LTSIP, Loke said he has instructed the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and traffic police to set up roadblocks this afternoon. 'This is to inspect all motorcycles entering the airport area this afternoon without exception, including any Yang Berhormat (YB) riding motorcycles,' he said.
It was reported that a motorcycle convoy and a casual meet-up session with Kelantan elected representatives would be held today, with key locations including the new LTSIP building.
