Ipoh: The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) has confirmed that fish supplies will remain adequate throughout the monsoon season, which will help stabilize market prices, as stated by its chairman, Muhammad Faiz Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Faiz mentioned that while the monsoon season impacts fishermen on the East Coast, LKIM has implemented proactive strategies, including the provision of over 1,000 metric tonnes of fish stock. He also highlighted that the private sector currently holds nearly 15,000 metric tonnes in reserves.
Muhammad Faiz assured, “When supplies run low, these reserves will be released, and we will also import certain types of fish to meet demand. With sufficient supply assured, Insha Allah, fish prices can be kept under control.” He made these remarks during a press conference following the inauguration of the 2025 Perak Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth Annual Convention.
He further elaborated that LKIM has established memorandums of understanding with various companies and private industry stakeholders to ensure the efficiency of the fish marketing chain. “Middlemen are still needed to keep the business running. However, I hope they will act responsibly and not raise prices indiscriminately,” he added.
